Falmouth all-weather lifeboat was launched at 6.29am to standby the 182m (16,257GRT) Russian Bulk Carrier Kuzma Minin which had dragged its anchor and was aground on the Gyllyngvase Reef in Storm Force winds. The pilot boat was already on scene and tugs had been requested to attend.
As conditions prevented a pilot being put on board the ship by boat the Coastguard helicopter was tasked to lower the ships pilot to the vessel. The lifeboat then stood by while five tugs connected lines to the vessel which was eventually towed clear of the shore at 2.10pm, the lifeboat then being released to return to its station where it was made ready for service again by 3.00pm.
