Falmouth’s inshore lifeboat was requested to launch on Friday 11 September to a distress alert from an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB).

Tasked to launch at 8.21am, Falmouth’s inshore lifeboat Robina Nixon Chard with Helm Jamie Connolly, and crew Lloyd Barron, Tom Bird and Tamara Brookes launched soon after. The Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked to assist. They made their way to moorings in the Inner Harbour where it was believed that the yacht to which the radio beacon was registered, was moored.

Once the yacht was located and confirmed unoccupied and secure, the crew were given permission to enter the yacht and find the radio beacon. Believed to have been self-activated in error, the lifeboat crew brought the radio beacon back to the station where it was handed to the Coastguard teams to deactivate.
