Shanty group’s donation closes Falmouth RNLI Appeal
Local shanty group Falmouth Shout presented a cheque for £1000 to the appeal during a recent appearance at the Pennycomequick public house. This donation marked the official closure of the Falmouth RNLI Appeal which exceeded its original target of £100,000 with a final total of £130,000.

Well done girls!
A big thank you to young fundraisers Ella, Ava Rose and Clara for choosing Falmouth RNLI as their charity to raise money by singing to people passing by in their street recently. The three girls, who are pupils at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Falmouth, raised over £10 from their busking session and presented the money to Falmouth Coxswain Jonathon Blakeston at the station.

The Falmouth RNLI Appeal was the beneficiary when local company Falmouth Marine Network presented a cheque for £650 to Falmouth Lifeboat Management Group Chairman Chris Price at the company’s headquarters.

Falmouth RNLI Lifeboat volunteer crew respond to reports of a car in the water
Falmouth’s inshore lifeboat Eve Pank was launched on Sunday 3 December as part of a multi-agency response to reports of a car with two people inside in the river near the Pandora Inn, Mylor. Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, South Western Ambulance Service, Devon & Cornwall Police and Water Rescue Units and a rescue tender from the Fire Service were also tasked to assist.

Falmouth RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew assist ordnance disposal team dealing with an unexploded mine
Falmouth’s all-weather lifeboat Richard Cox Scott was launched on 29 and 30 November to assist in a multi-service operation off Maenporth beach. A suspected unexploded ordnance had been discovered and reported by local SCUBA divers and subsequently Falmouth all-weather lifeboat was tasked to assist the police and Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, alongside the Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit – Southern Diver Unit Team from Plymouth.

Falmouth RNLI appeal boosted by Ska Night Fundraiser and Falmouth Beer Festival
Two recent events in Falmouth raised over £3,800 for the Falmouth RNLI appeal. The charity’s appeal was launched in March with the aim of raising £100,000 towards the cost of alterations and improvements needed at the lifeboat station ahead of the arrival of their new Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat. It has now reached over £90,000.

Falmouth’s Atlantic 75 inshore lifeboat Eve Pank launched at 5.55pm on Tuesday (21 November) after Falmouth Coastguard received a report of flashing lights and shouting in the vicinity of Bar Beach on the Helford. Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team was also tasked to investigate.

Falmouth RNLI 150th Anniversary Dinner at the Falmouth Hotel repeats history
Over 100 people, including local MP Sarah Newton, attended the dinner on Saturday 11 November to help celebrate Falmouth Lifeboat Station’s 150 years of saving lives at sea. A dinner also took place in 1867 at the same hotel to celebrate the arrival of the station’s first lifeboat, the City of Gloucester.

The 150th anniversary of Falmouth RNLI’s first lifeboat is marked by the presentation of a commemorative quilt
The quilt was made by members of Churchdown Patchwork and Quilters group in Gloucester to commemorate that it is 150 years since the City of Gloucester raised money for Falmouth’s first lifeboat and the launching ceremony held in Gloucester Docks on 9 April 1867. The quilt was presented to Falmouth RNLI representatives at Gloucester Docks during a special 150th event held by Gloucester RNLI over the weekend of 29 and 30 July.

Falmouth RNLI volunteer lifeboat goes to the aid of 80 ton beam trawler
On Thursday 9 March Falmouth coastguard requested the launch of the all-weather lifeboat to assist the Manx Ranger, an 18 metre long trawler with two crewmen on board, that had picked up a rope around its propeller and was drifting powerless some 5 miles to the South East of St Anthony lighthouse.

Fugro GeoServices personnel visit Falmouth lifeboat station
Two representatives of the GeoServices Company were at the station to present a cheque to Falmouth Lifeboats to bolster the appeal, launched that morning, to raise £100k to help towards the cost of refurbishing the boathouse. The refurbishment is needed to make alterations so that a new and larger inshore lifeboat can be accommodated.

A new volunteer for Falmouth RNLI lifeboats has received training at the RNLI College in Poole. Adrian Hingston, aged 46, who runs his own Marine Engineering business, completed the charity’s Sea Survival Training Course thanks to funding provided by Lloyd’s Register Foundation.

Falmouth RNLI volunteer lifeboat called to assist injured fisherman
The all weather lifeboat crew were paged this morning (18 August) at 8:14 am to go to the aid of a fisherman who had sustained an open fracture to his right lower forearm. It was 8:24 as they left the pontoon and 8:57 when they arrived alongside the French fishing vessel Yannick, some 6.5 miles to the east of Anthony Head lighthouse (Zone Point).

Falmouth RNLI volunteers in action again
On Monday 1 August at six minutes past 1:00 pm both Falmouth Inshore and all-weather lifeboats were requested to assist in the search for three divers overdue from the dive boat Celtic Kitten. The Lizard lifeboat, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 924 and Porthoustock Cliff Rescue team were also tasked to assist.

Royal Fleet Auxiliary crew donate money to Falmouth RNLI
The RFA Cardigan Bay recently returned to the UK after completing an important mission in the Middle East lasting just over four years. While away, members of the ship’s crew decided to collect foreign coins and notes for the RNLI and the money was handed over to Falmouth RNLI by Able Seaman Brian Sherring at Falmouth lifeboat station.

At 8:38 pm on Saturday 25th June the lifeboat volunteers were alerted to the fact that a person had been reported in the water near Falmouth Docks. They launched at 8:42 and were on the scene at 8:44pm.

Capsized kayaker in difficulty rescued by Falmouth’s RNLI lifeboats
The pagers alerted the volunteer crew to this action at 3.40pm on Sunday 22 May. Ten minutes later both boats were on their way to the incident, which involved a kayaker who had capsized and was in difficulty.

Motor sailor in trouble brought to safety by Falmouth all-weather lifeboat
Falmouth’s volunteer lifeboat crew were alerted to the fact that Little Auk (an 8.5 metre motor sailer) was in trouble by their pagers being activated at 10:20pm last night. By 10:31pm the all-weather lifeboat was on its way to her last known position, which was 5 miles to the east of St Anthony lighthouse.

Year 1 children from Nansloe Academy in Helston visited Falmouth lifeboat station at the end of November and were so inspired by what they saw, they decided to have a cake bake to raise funds for the charity.
