Search for missing snorkeler

Weather: WNW 4, Slight Sea and Swell, Good Visibility, Partly Cloudy with Showers

All weather lifeboat: (Launched 17:30 / Returned 18:10) – Dave Nicoll (Deputy 2nd Coxswain), Carl Beardmore, Jonathan Hackwell, Will Allen, Tamsin Mulcahy, Chris Simpson, Cadan Harris

Inshore lifeboat: (Launched 17:30 / Returned 18:12) – Elliot Holman (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Neil Capper, Adam West


At 17:24 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats be launched to assist in a search for a snorkeler who had been reported overdue in the area of Gyllyngvase and Swanpool Beaches. The Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team and Police were also tasked to assist in the search.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway and the All Weather Lifeboat which left its pontoon berth, both at 17:30. The Inshore Lifeboat commenced its search from Pendennis Point at 17:38, with the All Weather Lifeboat heading across the bay to Pennance Point where it started its search towards Swanpool Beach at 17:40. Both lifeboats were off Gyllyngvase Beach at 17:50 having completed their initial searches and were about to extend their searches when at 17:55 the Coastguard advised that further information had been received and all search and rescue units were released to return to their stations.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth at 18:10 and the Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 18:12. Both lifeboats were refuelled and made ready for service by 18:30.
