At 02:03 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats be launched to assist the police in multi-agency search for an elderly person who had not returned from an early evening walk in the Swanpool area. The Falmouth and Porthoustock Coastguard Cliff Rescue Teams, Cornwall Search & Rescue Team, Police Units, Police Helicopter and members of the public were also involved in the search.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 02:14 and commenced its search of the Falmouth Inner Harbour at 02:16. The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 02:17, and headed out of the harbour commencing its search of from Pendennis Point to Pennance Point at 02:30. The Inshore Lifeboat searched the Inner Harbour and the Penryn River up to Ponsharden before retracing its steps, completing its search at 03:30. The All Weather Lifeboat had completed its search of the coastline by 03:20. With nothing being found both lifeboats were released to return to their station.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth at 03:34, with the Inshore Lifeboat being back on its slipway by 03:36. Both lifeboats were refuelled and made ready for service by 03:55.

An extensive search of the local area was carried out during the late evening and through the night. The missing person was eventually located at approx. 08:00 and was taken by Ambulance to Treliske Hospital for treatment. This was a massive multi-agency search supported by many people from the local community. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the missing person at this difficult time.
