Both Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats were off Falmouth Docks involved in a previous incident when at 10:15 Falmouth Coastguard requested that they proceed to assist two occupants and their dog on board the 10m Motorboat Perla which was taking water off Trefusis Point.
Both lifeboats arrived on scene at 10:18 and the All Weather Lifeboat’s salvage pump was transferred to the vessel by the Inshore Lifeboat. The lifeboat crew worked with the skipper to reduce the water level in the vessel’s engine room allowing them to identify the source of the water ingress. With one of the vessels engines still working the boat was escorted to the Port Pendennis Marina where it was safely moored at 10:34, where the Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team were also on hand to assist.
The All Weather Lifeboat headed back to its pontoon berth where it safely moored at 10:47. Having recovered the pump the Inshore Lifeboat also headed back to its station where it was recovered into its slipway at 10:52. Both lifeboats were then refuelled and made ready for service by 11:10.
The water ingress had been due to the failure of a flange on pipework on one of the vessels engines. The skipper had wisely called for assistance and the prompt action of the lifeboats had prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
