At 15:42 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 8m Yacht Mary Ann J with two persons on board which contacted the coastguard when their propeller had become fouled and they were making limited headway back towards the harbour in the prevailing conditions.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 15:51 and having rounded Zone Point headed towards the casualty which was 3 miles ESE of Zone Point. On arriving on scene at 16:12 a tow line was passed to the yacht and at 16:16 the tow back into the harbour commenced. The yacht was taken up the Carrick Roads towards the Mylor Fairway Buoys where the tow was handed over to the Mylor Harbour Launch at 17:23, the All Weather Lifeboat being released to return to its station.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth at 17:39, where the lifeboat was refuelled and ready for service by 17:55.

The yacht had been on passage to Mylor when its propeller was believed to have become fouled by a lobster pot line. The skipper and crewmember were very appreciative for the assistance they were given.
