At 09:53 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist a 9m yacht with one person on board which had suffered rudder failure in Falmouth Bay.
The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 10:01 and having rounded Pendennis Point set course for the casualty which was 1 mile South West of Pendennis Point arriving on scene at 10:13. Having assessed the situation a drogue was passed to the casualty to help stabilise it during the tow. At 10:27 the tow line had been connected and the tow into Falmouth could begin. Once in the shelter of the Docks the yacht was brought alongside the lifeboat before being taken up the Penryn River to Coastlines Wharf where the yacht was transferred to the workboat from Falmouth Premier Marina, the All Weather Lifeboat being released at 11:31 to return to its station.
The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 11:43 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 12:00.
The yacht had was on passage around the United Kingdom and having been moored in the Helford was heading for Falmouth to shelter ahead of the forecast gales when the rudder had failed.
