DSC Distress Call

Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat was on exercise in Falmouth Bay when at 09:53 a DSC distress call was received from a vessel off Mylor in the Carrick Roads. The lifeboat immediately proceeded to the distress position. Other vessels in the area also responded.

The All Weather Lifeboat arrived on scene off the approach to Mylor Harbour at 10:12. The vessel was soon located, and it was confirmed that the distress call had been caused by water ingress into the vessel’s VHF Radio. With no assistance required the All Weather Lifeboat was released at 10:15 to return to its exercise.

While this was a false alarm caused by equipment failure. Skippers of vessels are asked to ensure their distress equipment is well maintained and is check on a regular basis.
