At 22:25 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 28ft yacht Little Auk which had reported having rigging problems and engine failure. The vessel which had two persons on board was 5 miles East of Zone Point and one of the crew was also reported to be suffering from sea sickness.

The All Weather Lifeboat which left its pontoon berth at 22:31 and having rounded Zone Point headed east arriving on scene at 22:55. A lifeboat crew member trained in Casualty Care was placed on board the yacht to check the casualties condition and if required to also assist with rigging a tow. Once it was confirmed that the casualty was stable a tow line was passed to the vessel and the tow back to Falmouth commenced at 23:25. The yacht was safely placed alongside the Port Pendennis Marina at 00:25 and the All Weather Lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth at 00:35, with the lifeboat being refuelled and ready for service by 00:48.

The yacht had left Falmouth earlier in the day heading for Fowey but had turned back when it had suffered rigging problems. It had then suffered engine failure and one of its crew had become sea sick due to the moderate south-easterly swell that was running.
