At 19:14 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist a 11m yacht with two persons on board which had suffered engine failure and was becalmed in Veryan Bay, 1.5 miles East of Gull Rock.
The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 19:28 and having rounded Zone Point headed East arriving on scene at 20:03. A line was passed to the yacht and by 20:10 the tow back to Falmouth had commenced. The yacht was towed to the Carrick Roads where the tow was shortened and the yacht was then taken alongside the lifeboat. It was then placed alongside another yacht which was anchored close the St Just Pool so that repairs to the engine could take place. At 22:05 the lifeboat was released to return to its station.
The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 22:25 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 22:45.
The yacht had put out a Pan Pan broadcast but when no other vessels were able to assist, and the light was fading it was decided to launch the lifeboat. The crew of the yacht were very grateful for the assistance they were given.
