At 15:12 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched after the Bulk Carrier Stonington Eagle reported a Liferaft adrift 8 miles Southeast of Zone Point.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 15:18 and having passed Zone Point headed southeast arriving on scene at 15:50. The Bulk Carrier which had remained on scene then provided a lee while the lifeboat recovered the Liferaft which competed by 16:03. There was no sign of recent occupation so the liferafts details were passed to the Coastguard and at 16:12 the lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The All Weather Lifeboat arrived back alongside its pontoon berth at 16:55 and was refuelled and made ready for service by 17:13.

The Bulk Carrier Stonington Eagle (35,812 GWT) had been unable to recover the 10 man Liferaft due to the vessels size and the prevailing sea conditions. From the information obtained by the lifeboat it was identified to have come from the Cargo Vessel Angon (2,945 GWT). Falmouth Coastguard were soon able to confirm that the vessel was safe and had reported the loss in the English Channel on the 18 December while on passage from Delfzijl in the Netherlands for Aveiro in Portugal. It had subsequently drifted into UK waters due to the prevailing conditions.
