At 13:00 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All-Weather Lifeboat be launched following a Mayday call from a Dive Boat reporting that it had recovered an unconscious diver from the water and required medical assistance. The Coastguard Helicopter was also tasked and a nearby dive boat offered to assist in the recovery of the other divers who will still in the water.

The All-Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 13:04 and once past Pendennis Point headed across the Falmouth Bay towards the Manacles. The Dive Boat headed towards Falmouth and at 13:17 rendezvoused with the Lifeboat and Helicopter approx. 2 miles South of Pendennis Point. The helicopter lowered a paramedic to the boat and then the All Weather Lifeboat transferred two casualty care trained lifeboat crewmembers to the vessel to assist. Following emergency treatment on board the vessel at 13:50 the casualty was winched up into the aircraft and was taken to Treliske Hospital.

The Lifeboat then recovered its crew members form the vessel and escorted it back into Falmouth where it was moored at its berth at Port Pendennis Marina.

The All-Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth at 14:12 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 14:40.

A short time later it was confirmed that the female casualty who had been a member of a diving club which had been on holiday in the area, had sadly passed away. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the casualty at this difficult time.
