At 12:22 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All-Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist a 7.5 metre sports boat with two persons on board. It had reported suffering engine failure 3 miles southwest of Dodman Point.

The All-Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 12:30 and, having rounded Zone Point, headed up to the east arriving on scene at 13:05. A towline was passed to the vessel and at 13:10 the tow to Falmouth commenced. Once in the harbour, the vessel was brought alongside the lifeboat and was then taken to Falmouth Yacht Haven where it was safely berthed at 15:05, the lifeboat being released to return to its station.

The All-Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 15:10 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 15:40.

The sports boat had been on passage from Plymouth to Falmouth when it had suffered complete engine failure. Various attempts were made to arrange a tow but given the boats location, and the fact that no suitable vessels were in the vicinity, the decision was taken by the coastguard to launch the lifeboat to assist.
