At 14:21 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 10m Fishing Boat Dawn Star which had reported engine failure 14 miles ESE of Lizard Point.

The All Weather Lifeboat which left its pontoon berth at 14:30 and headed out of the harbour. At 14:40 as the lifeboat was passing Pendennis Point the Coastguard advised that the Dawn Star had managed to restart her engine but requested that the lifeboat continue until the vessel confirmed that their assistance was no longer required. At 15:05 when the lifeboat was 4 miles South of Pendennis Point it was confirmed that the Fishing Boat was happy to return under its own power, so the Lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 15:30 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 15:40.

The Falmouth Lifeboat was launched to assist this casualty as the Lizard Lifeboat was already afloat searching 25 miles South of Lizard Point for an upturned boat which had been reported by a passing vessel.
