At 14:00, Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All-Weather Lifeboat be launched following a Mayday call from an 11-metre yacht with four persons on board. It had reported suffering a fire onboard to the east of the Manacle Buoy. A number of vessels responded to the Mayday broadcast and the Fire Brigade Boat was also tasked to assist.

The All-Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 14:10 and, having rounded Pendennis Point, headed across Falmouth Bay, locating the yacht at 14:30. It was heading towards Falmouth escorted by a local fishing boat. The yacht confirmed that they believed the fire was out, so the lifeboat escorted the yacht into the shelter of Pendennis Point where the Fire Boat was able to go alongside the yacht to confirm the fire was out before it could be allowed into the harbour. Once the Fire Brigade were happy, the yacht was escorted to a mooring in the Falmouth Inner Harbour where it was safely secured at 17:00, the lifeboat being released to head back to its station.

The All-Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 17:10 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 17:30.

It is believed the fire had been caused by an electrical fault and was confined to the engine compartment.
