All weather lifeboat: (Launched 16:31 / Returned 17:40) – Jonathon Blakeston (Coxswain), Tom Bird, Jamie Wakefield, Will Allen, Andy Edwards, Joe Amps, James Murray

At 16:20 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist a foreign yacht anchored off Castle Beach in Falmouth Bay. The yacht was having difficulties raising its anchor due to mechanical issues with its windless and there were concerns about the welfare of the two people on board due to the poor weather forecast.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 16:31 and having rounded Pendennis Point arrived on scene off Castle Beach at 16:42. Due to communication issues with the skipper a lifeboat crew member was placed on board the yacht to assist. A tow line was connected to the yacht and the weight was taken while the anchor was manually recovered. Once the anchor was safely stowed the yacht was towed into Falmouth Inner Harbour where it was placed on a mooring, the lifeboat being released to return to its station at 17:32.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 17:40 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 17:50.

The yacht had been anchored in Falmouth Bay for several days. She was having mechanical issues and with the increasing South westerly winds there were concerns in respect to the crew’s wellbeing. A rigid inflatable from Falmouth Boat Construction had also proceeded to assist the yacht and their help in the service was very much appreciated.
