At 17:48 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth all-weather lifeboat be launched to assist in the medical evacuation of a crewmember who had suffered a crushed hand on board the French Fishing Vessel Testarossa. An ambulance paramedic was tasked to meet the lifeboat on its arrival at its station.
The all-weather lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 17:52 and headed out of the harbour rendezvousing with the Fishing Vessel off the Governor Buoy at 17:52. Two casualty care trained lifeboat crew members were transferred to the vessel to assess casualties condition and to prepare him for transfer to the lifeboat. The casualty was on board the lifeboat by 18:09 and heading back to the lifeboat station where he was landed into the care of a paramedic at 18:30.
The all-weather lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 18:30 where the lifeboat was refuelled and was ready for service by 18:50.
The fisherman’s hand had been crushed by a heavy hatch while fishing 20 miles ESE of Falmouth. Following taking medical advise the fishing vessel was advised to head towards Falmouth where it was met by the lifeboat.
