At 17:54 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to carry out the medical evacuation of a crew member from the Fishery Patrol vessel Ocean Osprey south of Falmouth.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 18:15 and headed out across Falmouth Bay to rendezvous with the vessel off Blackhead arriving at 18:54. Despite the prevailing conditions two lifeboat doctors were transferred to the vessel to assess the casualty’s condition. The Ocean Osprey was escorted by the lifeboat as it headed up into Falmouth Bay where sea conditions allowed for the casualty accompanied by the doctors to be safely transferred to the lifeboat. By 20:15 the casualty was safely onboard the lifeboat which then headed back to its station.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 20:40 where the casualty was landed and handed over to Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Treliske Hospital in Truro for treatment. The Lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 21:00.

The fishery vessel had been patrolling south of the Lizard when a crewmember had been taken ill. Following receipt of medical advice, the vessel was advised by the Coastguard to proceed to Falmouth Bay where a medical evacuation by lifeboat was arranged. The lifeboat headed to rendezvous with the vessel off Blackhead so the lifeboat doctors could be transferred to the vessel, allowing them to assess and treat the casualty before a transfer was carried out in the more sheltered waters of Falmouth Bay.
