At 07:10 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats be launched following reports of what was believed to be a body in the water off the Prince of Wales Pier. The Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team, Ambulance Paramedics and Police Units were also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 07:15 and arrived off the pier at 07:18 where the units already on scene confirmed the location of the sighting. The All Weather Lifeboat which left its pontoon berth at 07:20 arrived on scene at 07:25. The Inshore Lifeboat confirmed that the object was a body and requested the assistance of the All Weather Lifeboat to help with its recovery. A Policeman and Paramedics were transferred to the All Weather Lifeboat by the Inshore Lifeboat and once the body had been recovered it was taken back to the lifeboat station where it was landed into the care of the police and coastguard. The Inshore Lifeboat was then tasked to carry out a search of the local area with the coastguard team before both were released to return to their stations.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 08:05, while the Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 08:15, both lifeboats being refuelled and ready for service by 08:30.

The body was later confirmed to be that of a local male who had been reported missing earlier in the month and the thoughts of the lifeboat crew go out to his family and friends.
