Location: Off Rosemullion Head in Falmouth Bay
Weather: W 4, Moderate Sea and Swell, Good Visibility, Squally Showers
Inshore lifeboat (Launched 12:24 / Returned 14:15) – Diane Bush (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Claire Angove
All-weather lifeboat (Launched 12:26 / Returned 14:05) – John Blakeston(Coxswain), Luke Wills, Carl Beardmore, Dave Nicoll, Andy Jenkin, Nick Head, Adrian Hingston
At 12:19 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats be launched following a Mayday call from the Fishing Vessel Peter John II reporting that they had found an unmanned Fishing Boat off Rosemullion Head in Falmouth Bay. The Fishing Boat Lady Hamilton also proceeded to the area and the Coastguard Helicopter was tasked to assist.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 12:24 and rounded Pendennis Point headed across the bay arriving on scene at 12:36. The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 12:26 and arrived on scene at 12:41. A crew member from the Inshore Lifeboat was put on board the fishing vessel and on hauling the vessels gear the missing person was located in the water. The casualty was recovered to the All Weather Lifeboat where attempts were made resuscitate the casualty before he was transferred to the Coastguard Helicopter and taken to Treliske Hospital, but sadly was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Fishing vessel was taken in tow by the Inshore Lifeboat at 13:35 and both lifeboats headed back to their station.
The All Weather Lifeboat arrived back alongside its pontoon berth at 14:05 and the Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 14:15, where both lifeboats were refuelled and ready for service by 14:28.
The thoughts of all of the lifeboat crew and station are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
