At 16:16 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a call from the NCI Lookout at Nare Point reporting a yacht aground on August Rock, at entrance to the Helford Estuary. The yacht was heeling over, and it was reported that one person had been in the water. The Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked to assist.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from its slipway at 16:27 and having rounded Pendennis Point headed across the bay arriving on scene at 16:41. Once it was confirmed that all was well on board the yacht the Inshore Lifeboat assisted in deploying an anchor before advising the skipper the best route clear of the rocks. Once the weight had been taken up on the anchor the skipper confirmed he was happy to await the incoming tide so at 17:23 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered on to its slipway at 17:39 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 17:55.
The yacht which had two persons on board had run aground when sailing out of the Helford. The yacht was safely re-floated and continued its passage later that evening, the skipper contacting the lifeboat station the next day to thank them for the assistance given.
