At 13:45 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports from a passing Fishing Vessel that it had spotted an unmanned Kayak and debris on the beach to the east of St Anthony Lighthouse. The Falmouth Fire Boat which was afloat had also been requested to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from the lifeboat stations pontoon at 13:52 and arrived on scene off St Anthony at 14:02. The Fire Boat was standing off nearby, so the Inshore Lifeboat manoeuvred into the beach where two lifeboat crew were placed ashore to investigate. It was quickly established that the occupant of the kayak was camping out on the beach and once their wellbeing had been confirmed at 14:14 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back alongside the station’s pontoon by 14:31 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 14:40.

The Fishing Vessel was right to raise the alarm in respect to the unmanned Kayak as the situation could have been very different. The crew of the Inshore Lifeboat were already in the lifeboat station providing cover due to the G7 restrictions, with the Inshore Lifeboat afloat tied up alongside the All Weather Lifeboat.
