Details:

At 13:57 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of a Kayaker in the water off Gyllyngvase Beach.

The Inshore Lifeboat proceeded at 14:05 and having rounded Pendennis Point headed towards Gyllyngvase Beach arriving on scene at 14:12. The casualty was located clinging to their Kayak 500m offshore and was recovered to the Inshore Lifeboat. Once it was confirmed that the casualty did not need any medical attention, their Kayak was recovered and emptied of water before the occupant and their craft were dropped back to Gyllyngvase Beach. Once the casualty was safely ashore at 14:22 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 14:35 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 14:50.

The kayak had capsized due to the easterly swell leaving its occupant in the water and unable to empty their kayak. The kayaker had been well equipped and was wearing a wetsuit and buoyancy aid.
