At 10:35 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a report of a fire on board an 8m yacht moored off Fish Strand Quay in Falmouth Inner Harbour. The Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team and the Fire Brigade Boat were also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 10:41 and headed up the harbour arriving on scene at 10:44. The occupant had abandoned to his dinghy and was safe and well. There were no external signs of fire so the Inshore Lifeboat stood by the yacht until the Fire Brigade Rigid Inflatable turned up. They were able to confirm that the fire was out, and the skipper was therefore able to return to the yacht. As the situation had been resolved at 11:25 the was released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 11:30 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 11:45.

The fire appears to have been caused by an electrical fault. The skipper had wisely contacted the Coastguard and had then taken to his dinghy.
