At 18:08 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the 8 metre single handed yacht Spirit of Venus whose skipper was suffering an injury and struggling to enter the harbour.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 18:22 and arrived on scene off Black Rock where two of the lifeboat crew were put on board the yacht to assess the casualty and assist brining the yacht into the harbour. At 19:05 the yacht was safely secured alongside at Port Pendennis Marina and the casualty was taken to the lifeboat station before heading up to the accident and emergency unit in Falmouth for treatment.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 19:10 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 19:25.
The yacht had been taking part in the Jester Azores Challenge which had started from Plymouth the previous day but the skipper had diverted to Falmouth when his existing injury had worsened.
