Body Boarder in difficulties

At 13:25 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of a body boarder in difficulty in heavy surf off Swanpool Beach. Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team was also tasked to assist with the search.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 13:31 and having rounded Pendennis Point headed towards Swanpool Beach arriving on scene at 13:36. The inshore lifeboat commenced a search of the area including talking to a number of surfers who were on the water. The Coastguard Team mean while obtained additional information from the first informants. At 13:40 it was reported that a surfer had been seen to climb up the rocks behind the Hooked Restaurant but the units were asked to continue the search until it could be confirmed that this was the original casualty. By 13:55 the body boarder had been located ashore and it was confirmed that it was no one else was missing so the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 14:10, being refuelled and ready for service by 14:25.

The body boarder had got into difficulty in the heavy surf but had managed to reach the rocks, before climbing the cliff to reach safety, his board and fins being discarded.
