At 19:03 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of a person in difficulty in the water at Gyllyngvase Beach. The Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team and the Coastguard Helicopter were also tasked to assist. Further reports were received reporting three other people in difficulty so the All Weather Lifeboat was also requested to launch at 19:08, fortunately by 19:11 these casualties were confirmed as safe ashore.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 19:09 and having rounded Pendennis Point headed along the seafront towards Gyllyngvase Beach arriving on scene at 19:14. The Inshore Lifeboat commenced an initial search of the area but the Coastguard Team were soon able to confirm that the initial casualty had been assisted ashore so at 19:19 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat arrived back at its station at 19:32 but was asked to remain afloat while the Coastguard Team investigate a report of a missing surfer, but by 19:38 the surfer had been located ashore so the Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 19:54.

The strong easterly winds had created a heavy swell at both Gyllyngvase and Swanpool Beaches which had led to several swimmers and surfers getting into difficulties.
