Date: Saturday 20 April 2019

Location: 1 mile SSE of Zone Point

Weather: Variable, Calm Sea and No Swell, Excellent Visibility, Clear Sky

Inshore lifeboat: (Launched 20:34 / Returned 21:38) – Sandy Procter (Helmsman), Jake Ingleby, Chris Simpson

At 20:27 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist a 5.5m Orkney Dayboat with two persons on board which had broken down 1 mile SSE of Zone Point.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 20:34 and arrived on scene off Zone Point at 20:48. A handheld radio was passed to the vessel and then it was taken in tow back to the Grove Place Dinghy Park where it was safely recovered on to its trailer at 21:30, the Inshore Lifeboat being released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 21:38 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 21:50.

The vessel had suffered a fuel line failure. Initially the Coastguard had issued a Pan Broadcast on the VHF Radio asking for any vessels that could assist with a tow but due to the boats position and failing light it was decided that the Inshore Lifeboat should be launched.
