Date: Friday 20 September 2019

Location: Trefusis Point, Falmouth Harbour

Weather: SE 6, Rough Sea and Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Clear Sky

Inshore lifeboat: (Launched 12:51 / Returned 13:10) – Jamie Connolly (Helmsman), Jamie Wakefield, Andy Edwards, Caden Harris

At 12:42 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of a yacht aground on Trefusis Point in the Falmouth Harbour. Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team were also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 12:51 and headed across the harbour arriving on scene at 12:57. The small traditional style working boat was located aground on the rocks at Trefusis Point and it was confirmed that its three occupants had safely made it ashore where they were met by the Coastguard Team. With an ebbing tide and the yacht already hard aground there was nothing further that the Inshore Lifeboat could do so at 13:05 it was released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 13:10 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 13:30.

The vessel had suffered engine failure and was unable to sail clear of the lee shore due to the strong wind and heavy swell. The owner was planning to attempt to recover the yacht on the next high tide.
