At 14:58 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of a person in the water in the Inner Harbour between Flushing and Prince of Wales Pier. A Mayday relay broadcast was issued by the Coastguard and vessels in the local area were requested to assist.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 15:04 and headed up the harbour arriving on scene at 15:07. It was soon established that the casualty had been recovered from the water by the crew of the harbour launch. Following an initial assessment it was decided to transfer the casualty to the Inshore Lifeboat and take them back to the lifeboat station where they could be warmed up and a further assessment could be carried out. The Inshore Lifeboat left the scene at 15:12 and landed the casualty at the lifeboat station at 15:20.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 15:25 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 15:35.
The casualty who had not been wearing a lifejacket had accidently fallen into the water from their moored boat but had remained calm and once they had overcome the effects of cold-water shock had managed to grab a nearby mooring. The casualty had been in the water for over twenty minutes before being recovered from the water by the crew of the harbour launch which was not an easy feat given the prevailing weather conditions and potentially saved the casualties life.
