At 14:34 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a Pan broadcast from a passing yacht which had spotted a swamped sailing dinghy with two persons on board off Greeb Point in Gerrans Bay.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from its slipway at 14:41 and having rounded Zone Point headed up to the east arriving on scene to the north of Greeb Point at 14:58. The yacht was standing by the dinghy and had recovered one of the casualties who had suffered a hand injury. The injured casualty was transferred from the yacht to the Inshore Lifeboat and given medical attention, before the swamped dinghy with the other casualty on board was towed back into Portscatho where they were safely landed at 15:17, the Inshore Lifeboat then being released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered on to its slipway at 15:40 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 15:59.
The sailing dinghy had become waterlogged and its crew had been unable to empty it in the prevailing weather conditions. One of the crew had broken their finger while trying to stop the boom from swinging, and once ashore made their own way to Minor Injuries for treatment.
