At 17:39 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a report from the Bunker Barge Lizrix of a small sailing boat adrift in Falmouth Bay.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 17:52 and having rounded Pendennis Point headed towards the bunker barge arriving on scene at 18:05. With visibility being poor due to the heavy rain and hail the crew of the barge helped direct the Inshore Lifeboat and at 18:09 the small sailing boat had been located 1 mile North East of Nare Point. A lifeboat crew member was placed on board the boat and was able to confirm that there was no sign of recent occupancy so a line was connected to the boat and it was towed into the Helford where it was placed on a visitors mooring at 19:01, the Inshore Lifeboat being released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 19:14 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 19:34.
It appears that the sailing boat had parted its mooring and drifted out of the Helford on the ebb tide and north westerly wind. Shortly after the inshore lifeboat had returned to its station the coastguard advised that they had managed to contact the owner who was grateful for the recovery of the boat.
