Motorboat aground

Date: Wednesday 25 August 2021

Location: Bosahan Beach, Helford Estuary

Weather: E 4-5, Moderate Sea and Swell, Excellent Visibility, Clear Sky

Inshore lifeboat: (Tasked 15:55 / Retasked 16:52) – Jamie Connolly (Helmsman), Tamara Brookes, Jack Williams, Lloyd Barron

At 15:55 while Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was proceeding to an incident off Gyllyngvase Beach, Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be retasked to a motorboat with five people on board, which was aground near Bosahan Beach in the Helford Estuary. The Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Team was also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 16:05 and found the boat partially submerged with its occupants on the shoreline but unable to reach the cliff path above. With the moderate swell it was decided it would be safer for the Coastguard Rescue Team to recover them using a rope rescue. The Inshore Lifeboat stood by off shore but at 16:52 the Coastguard retasked the Inshore Lifeboat to a vessel on fire off Portsactho.

The occupants of the motorboat were safely recovered by the Coastguard Rescue Team but sadly the boat had to be left to the elements.
