At 15:36 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team with a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) which had grounded on the reef and was trying to be refloated by its owners in a moderate south-easterly swell.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from its slipway at 15:49 and headed out of the harbour. However, as it was rounding Pendennis Point at 15:55 the Coastguard retasked the Inshore Lifeboat to a more urgent incident in the Helford Estuary.

The owners of the rigid inflatable were unable to refloat their boat and it was eventually abandoned on the beach at the high water mark.
