Inshore lifeboat (Launched 21:42 / Returned 22:05) – Elliot Holman (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Adam West

At 21:38 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a call from a local fishing boat tied up in the Falmouth Docks Basin reporting that there was a person in the water who was in need of assistance.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 21:42 arriving in the docks basin at 21:44. The casualty who was struggling to keep his head above the water was spotted near the fishing boat and was immediately recovered to the inshore lifeboat. An initial assessment indicated that the casualty was in a critical condition so the coastguard was advised that the casualty would be taken back to the lifeboat station where an ambulance would be required. The Inshore Lifeboat arrived back at the station at 21:48, where it moored up alongside the All Weather Lifeboat so that the casualty could be transferred into the lifeboats wheelhouse where additional casualty care was given while awaiting the arrival of the ambulance. The casualty was then transferred to Treliske Hospital.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 22:05 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 22:15.

The person is believed to have come from the fishing boat although the circumstance around which he ended up in the water is still being investigated. The actions of the inshore lifeboat crew and other crew members at the lifeboat station undoubtedly saved this persons life.
