At 10:40 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of two people in difficulties in the water off Castle Beach. Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team and the Coastguard Helicopter were also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 10:47 and having rounded Pendennis Point arrived off Castle Beach at 10:54. On arrival on scene it was found that the casualties were in the surf line and being helped out of the water by two Coastguard Officers. The lifeboat immediately dropped two casualty care trained lifeboat crew ashore to assist. It was confirmed that the two casualties were suffering from the effects of cold water but with an ambulance requested the crew were recovered to the Inshore Lifeboat and at 11:02 it was released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 11:09 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 11:30.

It is believed that one person had got into difficulties and the second person had entered the water to assist. A member of the public had then thrown a lifebuoy to the casualties but had been unable to recover them. The two Coastguard Officers who had been at the nearby Coastguard Sector Base were quickly on scene and immediately carried out a tethered snatch rescue of the casualties recovering them to the shore. Everyone’s prompt actions are to be commended and ensured a positive outcome.
