Report of Strobe Light
Date: Saturday 27 April 2019
Location: Off Little Falmouth, Penryn River
Weather: WNW 7, Slight Sea and No Swell, Good Visibility, Partly Cloudy
Inshore lifeboat: (Launched 21:42 / Returned 22:03) – Elliot Holman (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Tamara Brookes
At 21:35 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a report of a Strobe Light observed off Little Falmouth in the Penryn River. The Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team had already been tasked to investigate the light and were on scene at Flushing.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 21:42 and arrived off Little Falmouth at 21:46. The strobe light was found to be attached to a horseshoe life ring on a moored yacht. Once it had been confirmed that now one was at risk at 21:56 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 22:03 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 22:18.
It appears that the strobe light had become dislodged during the recent inclement weather and had then been spotted as the evening light faded.
