Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was afloat in Falmouth Inner Harbour carrying out crew assessments when at 17:25 Falmouth Coastguard requested that they proceed to assist a yacht whose skipper had suffered a hand injury.
The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene off Falmouth Docks at 17:30 and transferred two lifeboat crew trained in casualty care to the yacht. Having carried out an initial assessment the yacht was escorted to a visitors mooring where it was safely secured. The casualty and their partner were transferred to the Inshore Lifeboat and was taken to the Visitors pontoon where they were safely landed at 17:50, so they could make their own way to seek medical attention at the local Minor Injuries Unit, the lifeboat being released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered on to its slipway at 17:55 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 18:15.
The casualty had injured their hand on the yachts windless. Once the lifeboat crew having assessed the casualty, they then assisted the remaining crew member in safely securing the yacht to the mooring before helping them ashore.
