At 14:06 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist a 4.8m Open Boat with two persons on board which had dialled 999 to report that it had broken down between Portloe and Gull Rock.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 14:16 and having rounded Zone Point headed up to the East locating the casualty vessel off Killigerran Head at 14:27. A tow line was passed to the vessel and the tow commenced at 14:35. The vessel was towed back Cowlands Creek in the River Fal where it was placed on its mooring off Roundwood Quay at 15:30, the Inshore Lifeboat being released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 15:50 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 16:10.
When the crew of the vessel contacted the coastguard, they advised that there were no other vessels in the area, so the Inshore Lifeboat was tasked to assist. The vessel did not have a VHF radio so had to raise the alarm using their mobile phone.
