At 16:34 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist in the recovery of a person and dog from the cliff between Maenporth Beach and High Cliff. The Falmouth and Porthoustock Coastguard Cliff Rescue Teams had already been tasked and once on scene had requested the assistance of the Inshore Lifeboat.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 16:41 and having rounded Pendennis Point headed across the bay arriving on scene at 16:56. The cliff team were already on scene and were establishing their rope rescue equipment to reach the casualty. Due to the gorse on the cliff it was decided to lower the person down to the base of the cliff where they could be extracted by the Inshore Lifeboat, while the dog was recovered to the top of the cliff in a rescue bag. Once on board the Inshore Lifeboat the casualty was taken to Maenporth Beach where they were safely landed at 17:48, the Inshore Lifeboat then being released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 18:06 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 18:30.
The casualty turned out to be a good Samaritan who had offered to try and rescue the dog for its owner, by climbing the cliff but had then become stuck.
