Details:

At 16:30 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist a 5.5m Motor Sailor which had broken down in the Carrick Roads in light airs.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 16:43 and headed out of the harbour, but at 16:46 as the lifeboat was passing the docks, the coastguard confirmed that the boat had been taken in tow by another vessel, so the lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 16:53 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 17:10.

The occupants of the boat had contacted the coastguard to advise of their predicament but had also advised that they were hoping to obtain assistance from ashore. Due to the fading day light the coastguard decided to request the launch of the Inshore Lifeboat but as it passed the docks, they received confirmation from the coastguard that the vessel had been taken in tow and their assistance was no longer required.
