At 13:05 Falmouth Coastguard requested the launch of Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat following reports of a capsized canoe off Towan Beach with two persons in the water. Portscatho Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team was also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 13:12 and having rounded Zone Point headed up to the East reaching Towan Beach at 13:22. The canoe was quickly located and it was recovered onto the Inshore Lifeboat along with a male adult. His son had already been recovered by a member of the public on a paddle board and had been taken back to the beach. The canoe and its occupant were dropped off at the beach where the lifeboat crew helped carry the canoe and its equipment to the top of the beach. At 13:32 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 13:52 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 14:02.

The father and son had been out paddle fishing off the beach when the canoe had started taking water and then capsized. It appears that canoe was leaking and had become waterlogged.
