At 17:16 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist a 4.5m Sailing Boat with two people on board which was reported as being 1 mile South of Pendennis Point. The boat had called the Coastguard for assistance when it was struggling to make headway due to the prevailing weather conditions.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from its slipway at 17:23 and having rounded Pendennis Point headed out into Falmouth Bay to the original position that was given. The boat could not initially be located so the Coastguard contacted the skipper via their mobile and it soon transpired that the boat was closer to the Helford Estuary. The Inshore Lifeboat located the boat 1 mile North of Nare Point at 17:50 and having secured a tow line commenced the tow at 17:56, taking the vessel into Gillan Creek where the boat was safely placed on its mooring at 18:15, the Inshore Lifeboat being released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered on to its slipway at 18:29 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 18:45.
