At 19:54 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist four people cut off by the tide on the northern side of Maenporth Cove. The Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team was also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 19:59 and having rounded Pendennis Point headed across the bay to Maenporth arriving on scene at 20:06. The four casualties were located about 5m up the cliff out towards the wreck of the Ben Asdale. The Inshore Lifeboat dropped a crewmember onto the rocks to assist the casualties down to the water’s edge. They were then transferred to the lifeboat before being taken to the beach and handed over into the care of the Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team. Once they were safely ashore at 20:28 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 20:43 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 21:00.

The casualties had been exploring the rocks during the early evening sun when they had been caught out by the rising tide.
