At 07:14 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a report of a yacht aground at Amsterdam Point at the entrance to the Percuil River. The Portscatho and Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Teams were also tasked to assist.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 07:24 and arrived on scene off Amsterdam Point at 07:33. The 8.5m yacht was hard aground and appeared to be unmanned. While the Portscatho Coastguard Team checked out the vessel the Inshore Lifeboat carried out a search of the area to ensure no one was in trouble. At 08:02 with the search complete the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 08:18 where it was refuelled and made ready for service by 08:40.
It’s believed that the yacht had broken free from its mooring due to the prevailing conditions. While on this occasion it turned out that no one had been at risk, circumstances could have been different, and the emergency services would encourage the public to report any vessel or persons that they believe may be in difficulties.
