Details:

At 19:09 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist a 6m sailing boat with three people on board which had reported being aground on Pendennis Point. The Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team were also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 19:17 arriving on scene at 19:22. The sailing boat had been towed clear of the rocks by another yacht and was between Pendennis Point and Black Rock. Having checked that the sailing boat was not taking any water, it was taken in tow by the Inshore Lifeboat at 19:30. The boat was taken back into the inner harbour and then up the Penryn River to its mooring off Trevissome. Once the boat was safely on its mooring at 20:04, the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station, while the casualties rowed ashore to be met by the coastguard team.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 20:18 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 20:45.

The sailing boat was motoring using its small outboard when on rounding Pendennis Point they found that it could not make any headway against the strong northerly wind and ended up on the rocks. They did not consider using their sails and suitable safety advise was given to the casualties by both the lifeboat crew and the coastguard team.
