DSC Distress Alert

Date: Monday 9 September 2019

Location: Carrick Roads

Weather: N 4-5, Slight Sea and Swell, Good Visibility, Overcast

Inshore lifeboat: (Launched 23:38 / Returned 01:04) – Nick Head  (Helmsman), Tamara Brookes, Tamsin Mulcahy, Chris Simpson

At 23:16 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following the receipt of a VHF DSC Alert which gave a position on the shoreline between Trefusis and Penarrow Points.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 23:28 and commenced its search at 23:30. The search covered the western and eastern sides of the Carrick Roads and was completed by 00:58 with nothing being located, so the Inshore Lifeboat was then released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 01:04 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 01:25.

The DSC alert was received by Holyhead Coastguard but gave a position in Falmouth Harbour. The yacht it was registered to was confirmed as being safely moored up in Plymouth but its owner stated that the radio had been disposed of so the Coastguard wisely decided to carryout a search of the area to ensure no vessel or person was in difficulties.
