At 02:02 Falmouth Coastguard requested that both Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats be launched to assist the police in the search of the shoreline between Pendennis Point and Maenporth for a missing person. The Falmouth and Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Teams had also been tasked to assist in the search which was being coordinated by the Police and involved a number of their units including their helicopter and the assistance of the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 02:08 followed shortly afterwards by the All Weather Lifeboat which left its pontoon berth at 02:10. The Inshore Lifeboat headed for Swanpool arriving on scene at 02:14. As the All Weather Lifeboat was passing the Docks at 02:16 it was confirmed that the casualty had been located ashore and all units were released to return to their stations.

The All Weather Lifeboat arrived back alongside its pontoon berth at 02:24 with the Inshore Lifeboat being recovered onto its slipway at 02:25, where they were both refuelled and ready for service by 02:40.

The missing person was located in a critical condition in an area of deep undergrowth by the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team search SARDA dog team and was treated by the team and ambulance paramedics before being transferred to hospital. Congratulations should go to the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team for locating the casualty and in particular to their search dog Blitz and its handler.
