At 16:12 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 11m Swedish Yacht Vamos which had reported picking up a large section of trawl net in its propeller when it was close to the Manacles.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 16:20 and headed out into Falmouth Bay. The yacht was located 3 miles South of Pendennis Point sailing towards Falmouth but severely restricted by the 15m length of trawl net trailing behind. When the lifeboat arrived on scene at 16:34 it launched its small inflatable Y-Boat which placed two lifeboat crew onto the yacht and also assisted in the recovery of the trawl net onto the yacht. A tow line was then passed to the yacht by the lifeboat and at 17:02 the tow into Falmouth commenced. The yacht was taken to the pontoons at The Haven where it was safely moored at 17:40, the All Weather Lifeboat being released to return to its station at 17:50.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth at 18:01, where the lifeboat was refuelled and ready for service by 18:20.

The yacht with two persons on board had been on passage from Bristol to Finland and had been heading in towards Falmouth when it had picked up the trawl. The skipper was very appreciative of the assistance they were given.
